The 2020 SAN LEONARDO wine from Tenuta San Leonardo Srl is an excellent product from Trentino, Italy, belonging to the IGT category. It is a still red wine that elegantly expresses the territory and local winemaking tradition, enhancing cabernet-sauvignon grapes grown in vineyards located between 120 and 300 metres above sea level with south-west and north-west exposure. The winemaking involves spontaneous fermentation and long maceration in cement tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation which gives the wine a complex and refined character. Vintage: 2020 Grapes: cabernet-sauvignon Winery: Guyot and spurred cordon; double and simple Trentino pergola. Organoleptic notes: Intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections, on the nose it is seductive and complex, opening with hints of berries, continuing with balsamic notes, undergrowth, tobacco, and aromatic herbs. Lively and elegant wine, refined tannins, great balance and depth. Soil: Light and sandy for Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, clayey with excellent drainage for Merlot. Vineyard: Altitude: 120-300 m a.s.l.; exposure south-west, north-west. Winemaking/Aging: Spontaneous fermentation and maceration for 12-15 days in small cement tanks with various daily pump-overs and sporadic delestage. After racking, malolactic fermentation occurs in the same tanks where the wine remains in decantation for several months. Yield per hectare: 50-60 q.li/Ha for spurred cordon and guyot; 80-90 q.li/Ha for double and simple Trentino pergola. This IGT red wine from Trentino is suitable for pairing with meat dishes and aged cheeses, but can also be enjoyed on its own to fully appreciate its complexity and balance. A recommended purchase for those wishing to discover a still wine that authentically represents its territory of origin.
